Take3 Theatre School

About Us

Take3 Theatre School first opened its doors in

September 2006.  Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy are the two flagship schools with a new school just opened in Linlithgow. There are plans to expand the business further in the near future.

Jacqui Dempster and Arlene Forbes are the two Principals of the schools who both had a background and interest in amateur performing arts. The 'ladies' as they are known to everyone (we haven't worked out why yet, but we'd prefer the 'girls'!) are now jack of all trades in the school but rarely have the opportunity to perform themselves these days (despite best efforts!).  Generally 'the girls' will be found backstage applying make up, making costumes giving light and sound cues or even making breakfasts for 27 hungry kids in the wilds of Scotland.  How the mighty fall!

The students have achieved great things since they started with Take3 where they learn all genres of dance (tap, jazz, modern stage, hip hop, street dance to name but a few); singing (solo, part singing, musical theatre) and acting for stage, film and television.

With the help of our associate casting agency many of our students have now had opportunities of appearing in various TV programmes, films, videos and advertisements.  Keep a lookout on our website when we'll be publishing our students' experiences on their professional castings.

Since the schools opened we have produced many shows including a BBC Children In Need Show which raised £800; two plays for the Scottish Community Drama Association, one of which, "Ghost Writer" by NJ Warburton (Dunfermline School) reached the finals of the competition held in Plockton, near Skye and the other, "Romeo & Juliet" the musical, by Debbie Campbell (Kirkcaldy School), won best moment of theatre.  A further variety show at Lochgelly Centre was followed this year by our most ambitious project, "Guys & Dolls" Junior which received rave reviews from the audiences and was latterly produced for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2009.  Our end of term show in June 2008 saw our first ever "X-Factor" style contest included in an evening of dance, drama and musical theatre.  The lucky winners won a day in a recording studio.  In June 2009 we ran "Strictly Dance Fever" where the students choreographed their own dance routines.  The winners won a trip to the theatre.

There is always so much going on at Take3 that there isn't enough room to tell you about everything, but watch this space for lots more news and see our photographs in the gallery page.
